Okayama University

Okayama University was founded as a comprehensive university in 1949, bringing together a group of eminent and historically-significant institutions of higher education, including the Okayama-Han Medical Training School.

Since its founding, Okayama University has achieved great heights, expanding to include 10 faculties, 7 graduate schools, 4 research institutes, a university hospital, and several attached schools. At present, Okayama University has around 20,000 students, and it is home to roughly 1,000 international students and faculty members.

Okayama University has a large, verdant campus situated in the heart of Okayama City. The region is known for its mild climate and abundance of sunshine.

  • Japanese Language Exchange
  • Edinburgh students will participate in Okayama University's 'Exchange Programme Okayama: Students from Overseas,' also known as EPOK.  
  • Please note you may be required to provide proof of financial resources as an immigration requirement in order to pursue an exchange in Japan.


  • EPOK students will live in an on-campus dormitory called the International Student Shared House. 
  • Please be aware that the dormitory where students stay may change depending on the period of their exchange.
  • Students will be assigned to a dormitory and cannot choose which dormitory they will live in. 
  • The monthly rent and utility fees vary by dormitory.
