Ritsumeikan University

Listed in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings as the top private university in Japan, Ritsumeikan University has 18 undergraduate colleges and 20 graduate schools that span the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences.

Ritsumeikan University is a sizeable institution with over 36,000 students, including more than 2,400 international students, across its campuses in Kyoto, Osaka and Shiga. Student interests are greatly varied, as evidenced by the more than 430 student clubs and associations.

  • Japanese Language Exchange
  • Edinburgh students participate in the Study in Kansai Program (SKP), which is the intensive Japanese language (IJP) programme hosted at Ritsumeikan University's Kinugasa Campus in northwestern Kyoto City.
  • Please note you may be required to provide proof of financial resources as an immigration requirement in order to pursue an exchange in Japan.

  • SKP students can only select courses from the course list that is distributed to them at the start of the course registration period.
  • Undergraduate students may only take undergraduate courses.
  • International students are required by Japanese law to attend a minimum of 10 hours of classes per week. As a typical lesson lasts for an hour and a half at Ritsumeikan University, students must take at least 7 lessons per week.
  • Students can register for up to a maximum of 20 credits each semester.

 


  • Housing managed by Ritsumeikan Unviersity is limited, and allocation cannot be guaranteed. 
  • Once housing has been confirmed, it cannot be changed or cancelled.
