The Academy of Fine Art in Munich was initially established as a drawing school in 1770 by Elector Maximilian III Joseph and is one of the oldest institutions of fine art in Germany. Today, the Academy sees itself as an experimental laboratory, as a breeding ground for solutions beyond all convention. Its classes are complemented by twenty excellently-equipped study workshops and a large library as well as seminars and lectures in art studies, philosophy and didactics.
