University of Tsukuba

As a new comprehensive university established under Japan's country-wide university reform plan in 1973, the University of Tsukuba has striven to become a unique, active, and internationally-competitive institution through first-rate education and research facilities.

The University of Tsukuba has 16,000 students who attend its campus in Ibaraki Prefecture, a 90-minute train journey northeast of Tokyo.

  • Japanese Language Exchange
  • You may be required to provide proof of financial resources as an immigration requirement to pursue an exchange in Japan.

  • Exchange students wishing to join the College of Japanese Language and Culture must demonstrate Japanese language proficiency at the JLPT N1 or N2  level. 
  • Exchange students are unable to take Business or Law courses. 

 


  • The University of Tsukuba offers single-room accommodation to accepted exchange students, who will be sent a housing selection form. 
  • Students will be asked to pay the first month of rent and a deposit of JPΒ₯30,000 yen upon arrival.
