Uppsala University

Founded in 1477, Uppsala is the oldest university in Sweden and the Nordic countries still in operation. Today it is a strong, comprehensive research university ranked among the best in the world, with a student population of around 50,000. Campus Uppsala is located 70 km north of Stockholm and 30 km from the international airport Stockholm Arlanda.

This exchange partner institution is available to students applying for Subject-specific exchange in the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Mathematics
  • Scandinavian Studies

If you are studying one of the above subjects, you should apply through the Subject-specific exchange route.

Students in other subject areas may also apply to this institution via the University-wide exchange.  

All University-wide applicants should check, before applying, that there are sufficient courses available in your subject area(s) and discuss your proposed choices with your School Exchange Coordinator.  You must meet the pre-requisite requirements for courses you wish to take.β€―It is understood that quota limitations, normal timetabling and scheduling constraints apply to all students.β€―

This exchange is suitable for undergraduate students on single and joint honours degree programmes.β€― 

Restricted subject areas

This is not a suitable destination for students in the following subject areas:
  • Clinical Medicine
  • Economics
  • Philosophy
  • Psychology
  • Social Anthropology
  • Sociology

There is limited course availability in the following subjects:

  • Politics 
  • History 

No entry level courses are available in the following subject areas so applicants must have strong academic background in these subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Law
  • Medicine
  • Physics

Entry requirements may vary in the following subjects:

  • Business Studies 

Teaching is available in English and swedish.  

Scandinavian Studies students will be expected to study in Swedish.  

Students on Subject-specific exchanges in the subject areas listed in the previous section should be able to take a full course load in English at this institution.

Students applying for University-wide exchange should check course availability to ensure that a full course load will be available in English.

Housing is provided and managed through the private company Uppsala University Housing Office (UUHO). Uppsala University does not have its own accommodation.Students apply for housing between the following dates:For autumn term: 15 – 31 May For spring term:   15 – 30 November The link to the housing application will be emailed out to students in a separate email prior to the opening of the housing application period. The UUHO process the online applications for housing in Uppsala and Visby. Offers are made at the beginning of June for the autumn term and at the beginning of December for the spring term. An active response from the applicant is required.

Please note that students should apply for housing as soon as the housing application period opens, even if they have not yet received their Certificate of Acceptance. Applying for housing is not binding but accepting an offer is a binding contract.Housing is not guaranteed, but accommodation is normally offered for exchange students if their application for housing in Uppsala is submitted on time and the student has accepted the offer by the deadline specified in the housing offer.
