Since its creation in 1885, Yonsei University has been synonymous with international education and exchange in Asia. As the most internationalized and liberal institution of higher learning in Korea, Yonsei enjoys by far the longest history of international education in Korea with the most extensive network of exchange partners world-wide. Exchange students at Yonsei University's extensive have the opportunity to receive the best international education in Asia through its globally renowned faculty and innovative and extensive curriculum, with over 1,200 courses taught in English.

Yonsei University is particularly fortunate to be situated in a spacious, quiet, and well-wooded environment with a mountain, located just inside in the centre of Seoul's metropolitan area. į

  • Computer Science courses are highly competitive, with limited spaces available.     
  • Business courses are restricted to those studying Business. 
  • University accommodation is not guaranteed.

Restricted subject areas

At Yonsei University, certain subject areas are competitive or restricted and entry is subject to meeting strict prerequisite study requirements, as well as available space. į 

It is important to note that securing course enrollment in computer science at Yonsei University remains highly competitive, and the availability of these courses is limited. Therefore, it may be impossible for students to gain a full course load in computer science. į

Business courses are restricted to business majors only and business students can take a maximum of four courses under the College of Business. Students are not permitted to take courses in the following fields: Medicine / Dentistry / Nursing / Pharmacy, Music, MBA, Law, and courses offered at the Songdo International Campus. į 

This exchange does not offer Divinity/Religious Studies, Law, Music, Classics, Economics, nor Computer Science.

University accommodation: 

Students interested in staying at on-campus housing must submit a separate housing application as soon as it opens online. The International House (female only) and SK Global House accept applications from exchange students. Please note that housing is not guaranteed due to limited spaces. Rooms will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you do not secure a place in University accommodation at Yonsei University, you will be responsible for sourcing your own private accommodation. 


Immigration/visa requirements:  

You should expect to pay a processing fee to obtain your study visa for Korea.  Visa requirements can vary depending on your nationality.  

How much it will cost to go on exchange to Yonsei University:  

Estimated budget per semester in South Korean won (KRW): 

  • Housing: KRW 1,854,000   
  • Meals: KRW 2,000,000   
  • Books and supplies: KRW 400,000   
  • Transportation: KRW 400,000   
  • Personal expenses: varies, but consider mobile phone, recreation, etc.   
  • Flights: varies   
  • Korean national health insurance: around KRW 43,500 per month   
  • Visa costs vary   
  • Total for one semester: Over KRW 4,700,000    

Please note that these numbers are estimates and do not include flights, visas, insurance, or personal expenses. You may also be required to pay administrative fees at your host institution, which can include sending your transcript to us at the end of your exchange.    

Health insurance:  

All students must own health insurance that covers the period during their stay in Korea. Yonsei University does not offer health insurance.  Proof of health insurance must be submitted to Yonsei University. 

Students without health insurance will not be given access to course registration. 

All students in Korea with a student visa (D-2) will be required to purchase Korean National Health Insurance in addition to travel insurance. The estimated cost is 30-40 USD/month.
