No known restrictions on courses but please check the course catalogues to ensure you can access appropriate courses for your degree programme. We advise that Science and Engineering students should look closely at the courses available to ensure that they can be taken in sequence.

Not suitable for Economics. 

This exchange may be difficult for Direct Entry students to gain acceptance.

Most undergraduate study abroad and exchange students select 1000-3000 level units in areas that they have already studied at their home institution. Please be aware that you may need to prove pre-requisites and previous study for some courses.

University Accommodation

The University of Sydney offers accommodation on and off campus. University Residences offer independent living close to campus. The university manages these on-campus, self-catered residences. Students staying here can also get involved in various sporting, cultural and wellbeing events.    

The University of Sydney also offers Residential colleges. Every college offers a supportive living experience and a busy social calendar. These options are catered, including 18-21 meals per week, laundry services and a strong support network.   

 

Formal college dinners take place regularly at the residences, featuring keynote addresses from alumni and special guests, and there are social events run by both the college and student-run committees.

There is a lot of private student accommodation on offer in Sydney, as well as student boarding houses, which are common in the inner west of Sydney. The University of Sydney has a database which could be useful when searching for accommodation.

How much it will cost to go on exchange to Sydney?

From 10 May 2024, the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs announced that student visa applicants will need to show they have a minimum of $29,710 to cover the cost of living for a year in Australia. 

In addition to this amount, you'll also need to consider establishment costs such as buying furniture, paying a rental bond and setting up electricity, gas and mobile phone accounts, as well as other expenses such as visa and medical fees, tuition fees, return airfares, and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Remember that exchange rate variations may also affect your budget.

Health insurance

Overseas Student Health Cover is compulsory for international students. Costs will depend on your insurance provider and your level of cover. Check with your insurance provider for rates for your selected cover.
