About us

Education Beyond Borders delivers a programme of funding, support, and collaborative and community-led initiatives to ensure continued access to education for displaced scholars.

Academic At-Risk Fellowship

Working with our partner Cara (the Council for At-Risk Academics), we offer fully-funded fellowships to at-risk academic staff.

Displaced Student Scholarship

A scholarship for people based in the UK who have been displaced due to conflict, persecution, or other serious human rights violations or deprivations.

A part-time online programme starting in 2025 for people who are displaced and/or have refugee status. Applications are now closed for the 2025 intake.

Volunteer for the Student Mentoring Scheme

We are looking for volunteers to mentor a student from a displaced background and support them throughout their studies.

Mentors will support our students’ transition into the University and life in Edinburgh by supporting their engagement with academic and non-academic life.

Our vision for this programme is to see students thrive in their studies and develop a sense of belonging and community at the University.

The University’s response and support for those impacted by global emergencies and situations is available on our University of Sanctuary website.

Our research agenda is focused on forced migration, refugee education and refugee mental health.

We share news, events, volunteer programmes, and other opportunities to support and celebrate our Education Beyond Borders community.
