An event celebrating the successful Una Europa - Africa seed-fund project 'PeakSolve'. Register for the event Come along to hear more from Professor Margaret Graham, Director of Edinburgh Earth Initiative, about the successful Una Europa - Africa seed-fund project 'PeakSolve' that she has been leading. Alongside Professor Craig Sheridan, University of the Witwatersrand, colleagues from Jagiellonian University, Krakow and some of the PhD researchers and ECRs who were involved in the project, you'll learn about the impact on freshwater of increasing (and shrinking) populations.Date: 2 SeptemberTime: 2.30 - 5.00 pmVenue: MacLaren Stuart Room, Old College About the projectPeak human population (~10.5 bn) is expected within 50 years, before declining to ~10.3 billion by2100. Most of the increase will occur in Africa, whilst populations in many developed nations arealready decreasing. Our project will explore changes in where people live, how they will impact the environment,(especially freshwater) and how to respond to the global challenges of both increasing and shrinking populations. Approximately two-thirds of the world鈥檚 population live in regions that experience severewater stress, and more than two billion lack access to safe drinking water. We will explore water resources to equip early-career researchers with the collaborative, cross-disciplinary skills to solve challenges relating to emerging contaminants, freshwater systems, sanitation, water supply and governance.
