Sustainable Living guide recognised as changemaking

The Study and Work Away Service (SWAY) Sustainability Working Group has been recognised for its outstanding work in promoting sustainability and global engagement, including creating an informative guide to Sustainable Living in Edinburgh for visiting students. The online guide was developed to incentive students to make sustainable choices, save money, and help the environment.

The Changemaker Award at the University of Edinburgh recognises current students and staff who have made a noticeable positive impact by undertaking an impactful socially responsible or sustainable project or by inspiring others to act in a more socially responsible or sustainable way.

Encouraging sustainable choices

The Sustainable Living in Edinburgh online guide covers topics from transport, clothing, and waste, to recycling, student societies and food. The project was recognised with a Changemaker Award for being pro-active in promoting sustainability and global engagement.

Incentivising sustainability in Edinburgh

The guidance was designed with visiting students in mind - being new to Edinburgh and only here for a limited time - to help them make the right choices from the outset while adjusting to living in a new city.

To incentivise making sustainable lifestyle choices, the guide is partnered with the Sustainability Rewards App, a web-based platform which provides practical guidance, tracks sustainable actions you鈥檙e taking, highlights new ways to live more sustainably, and offers rewards for continued commitment to sustainability.

Practical guidance for all

Although the intended audience is visiting students, the information gathered and collated can help almost anyone to reflect on and adapt their habits to live more sustainably.

Demonstrated by the Changemaker Award, the project has successfully provided our community with a tool that helps people take meaningful action. Every small action made by informed individuals, collectively adds up, and makes a difference in our extraordinary city.
